Our story
What began as a passion project has evolved into something so much more. Pop Art! Kids started when Rosie moved from Brooklyn to Old Town, Alexandria. With a spirited daughter, a son born with a rare genetic disease, DUP15Q syndrome, and a sweet newborn baby girl. Then the pandemic hit. Their sons weekly early intervention services of PT, OT, feeding therapy and speech therapy were paused indefinitely. With a little research on ways to help support a child with sensory challenges at home, she discovered examples of simple sensory bin setups, and quickly saw first hand the benefits that sensory play had on him. A calm and regulated body, vocalizations which would help support language development, fine motor skills that were camouflaged by play, and incredibly, an inclusive activity that both he and her typical daughter engaged in together, while independently playing side by side.
Pop Art! Kids started when Rosie lived in Old Town, Alexandria. She would pack her car with sensory bins and set up in local parks, welcoming her community to come and get messy together. She first discovered sensory bins when her son was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease, DUP15Q Syndrome and knew she needed a way to help him through the pandemic when his early intervention services had been put on hold. She saw first hand the many benefits that sensory play had on his development. Ever since, she has continued growing her studio to build Pop Art! Kids into the most original and magical sensory and process art studio that welcomes children and their caregivers to create magical memories together. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead. What sets us apart isn’t just our process—it’s the intention behind it. We take time to understand, explore, and create with purpose at every turn.
